After a trip to the Caribbean our sailor returns home with inspiration
for this dance.
Start: all couples stand in 2 lines: Gents
in one line and Ladies in the opposite line.
Melody:
Bråd-søer, i.e. the same melody as for dance 5a: Sailors lined up; (on top of
this page there is linked to mel+a+b).
The dance consists of 4 parts: greetings in lines, greeting walk, New York
presentation, 1’ couple dances to last place:
1 the lines greet each other with
cha-cha-cha, change over and greet again, and change home
2 all turn to the right and walk in lines,
meeting and greeting each other, walk around and home
3 couple wise New York presentation, change
over and New York again; or more free couple dance
4 the first couple dance to the last place
with rock polka
Melody:
Bråd-søer (the same as for dance 5a: Sailors lined up)
bar no
1-2 Cha-cha-cha basic steps with
greeting towards partner, left foot forward, then back to right foot …
3-4 The lines change place, walking
steps, right shoulder towards right shoulder and
1-2 there again basig steps and
greeting (walk walk cha cha cha).
3-5 The lines change place back home,
right shoulder towards right shoulder.
6-9 All turn to their right. The now
front Gent and the front Lady (in either end of their lines) turn 180º to their
right and walk behind their lines to the further place, taking their lines
along.
6-10 Turning right on this further place
everybody continues to home place. Walking along everybody meets everybody to
the left and right with hasty greetings.
11-12 Now everybody is at home. With partner
you have couple wise dance, New York presentation to G right and G left.
13-14 The lines change over, right shoulder
towards right shoulder, and again couple wise New York presentation; or more
free couple dance.
13-15 The lines change back over again,
right shoulder …
16-23 The front couple (the right end seen
from the Gents) has rock polka down between the lines (the lines clap) to the
end place and stays there. So a new couple is now front couple.
See dance 1 Sailor-rhinelander
for the description of the basic steps: walk walk 1chasse and of rock
polka.
The dance is fast: so small steps.
If you feel like
it: then a little cha-cha-cha hip movement (the ship floor is pitching).
Basic steps in
cha-cha-cha: G: start from feet together, walk forward on lf with weight slow, replace weight to rf slow, side chasse to the left cha
cha cha (=quick quick slow); walk back on rf slow, replace weight to lf slow, side chasse to the right cha
cha cha. L follows G (i.e. rf walk back slow,
replace weight to lf slow, side chasse to the right
hø, etc.). Close hold or 2 hand hold.
New York presentation (= cross over break): L rh
in G lh face each other, G: ¼ right turn (clockwise) lf cross over slow, replace weight to rf slow, face each other side chasse
to G left; L: the same mirror reflected.
The melody is in 4 parts, 5 lines, (with influence of
calypso).
Accordion: 4 + 4 beats pr bar.
