Our sailor has been to
We here dance European (Spanish, English) tango (with
basic steps: slow slow
quick quick over 1½ bars).
We dance for the pleasure so you are free
to select a relaxed informal hold etc.
Start: big
circle of couples (all the dancers of the ballroom)
After an
introduction with a big circle, the dance consists of 2 parts: chain to a new
partner and couple dance:
intr big circle clockwise, tango walk steps
1 short chain to a new partner, tango walk steps
2 couple dance tango: either C or D:
C promenade with right turn
D rock steps (rock turn)

rock back on left foot quick, rock

side quick, rf
close to lf slow. Then ready to 2
basic tango steps before chain.
Tango-steps and
tango-figures: see above and see dance 11 Tangoing Turnover
See also dance 9 Tango Reverse.
The melody in the introductory circle (bar 1-8) is
from a known European tango to give the bolero rhythm style (to distinguish
from argentine tango). In the rest of the melody (9-20) there is exactly one
note for each step to ease the learning of tango.
To be played: as spanish tango, see bar 1-4 in
dance 11:
2 + 2 beats pr bar.
These tango figures can be seen nicely explained (in
English) by:
Ian & Ruth Walker, Social Ballroom Dancing
Collection, for beginners, The Tango, Instep Videos, 1989 (Lyngby
Library).
