Folk dances from Denmark

Folk dance programme for one evening

Niels Mejlhede Jensen, Bøgeløvsvej 4, 2830 Virum, Denmark. e-mail (web master)

Old tunes used for folk dancing in Denmark 1999, arranged with music improvisations; + dance instructions

Folk dances from Denmark + a few from Sweden and other countries

On this page there is shown an example of a folk dance programme for an evening in Denmark today, where I dance.
The programme is for experienced dancers. About half of the dances, the interactive dances, are explained shortly (1-3 minutes). (Teaching a new dance takes longer time).
The programme is taken from my dance orientated music book: *117* Gue jawtner mæ spelmajsbal, which of lay out reasons has only short melodies.
The classification and grouping of the dances and the translation into English is mine (an approximate name may some times sound better than an exact translation).

A programme of 30 dances of different types is adequate for a dance evening of 2 hour dancing + ½ hour coffee break.
I have only 20 dances on my web site, but this will suffice if you are not very experienced with the dances here, or the music can be played a little longer time.
Observe: that if you have come to dance all evening with your lovely spouse then you need to buy a record (CD) and start all over when you get back home, because in my programme here you get mixed all the time, get new partners.
