Smedens 1' skottis (= Tisse-skottis) (= Skøjteløber-skottis)(Blacksmith's no 1 Schottische (= Pee Schottische) (= Skaters' Schottische)- couple dance |
||
bar 1 | Dance position: forward cross grasp in open position: both face
forward, right hand in right hand, and left hand in left hand, right arm
in front of left.
In UK and USA you say: Promenade hold (Danish traditional promenade hold is different). ("Pee" Schottische is because of the song to the tune, not because of the picture you see to the left). |
|
bar 1 | Schottische step forward to the right (both start right foot).
bar 2 | Schottische step forward to the left.
bar 3-4 | 4 x 2 hop steps: 2 hops on right foot, 2 hops on left foot, 2 on right,
2 on left.
Dance of bar 1-4 is repeated (in bar 1-5). |
|
bar 6-7 | You face your partner, and with left hand hold you both dance a schottische
step to the right.
Then to the left with right hand hold. |
|
bar 8-9 | Keeping the right hand hold the couple dances around 1 round with 4
x 2 hop steps.
The dance of bar 6-9 is repeated in bar 6-10. . (I am sorry the bar numbers did not show up on the web note sheets included here). |
|
bar 6-10 | The above description is the traditional dance I knew of.
But here in Copenhagen i learned to vary Danish schottische as shown, with the hold you know from e.g. "Circassian Circle": left hand grasp and place right hand on your partner's shoulder. As shown to the left: place right foot along the outside of partner's right foot and swing around clockwise like a couple pivot. |
The dance is repeated as long as pleased.
This dance with Danish schottische is described in "A Selection of European Folk Dances" vol. 2, from Society for International Folk Dancing, UK, 1959 and several reprints.
To also this melody many folk dancers in Denmark often dance Swedish Schottische, e.g. "8 figure Swedish Schottische".
